About The Author
Ziona is a first-generation American born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. Her parents were born in Honduras, and she identifies as Afro-Latina Americana. These roots live quietly in her work—present without explanation, carried rather than announced.
She grew up in neighborhoods like Mattapan, where hardship was not an exception but part of daily life. From an early age, Ziona understood how easy it was to be swallowed by circumstance. Even then, something in her resisted that ending. Not with certainty or clarity—just a knowing that her life had to hold more than survival alone.
Mental health struggles, addiction, trauma, street violence, and loss were not ideas she learned about later; they shaped her in real time. Ziona is a survivor of multiple suicide attempts and has escaped sex trafficking. She shares this not to be defined by it, but to name the truth of what she has lived through—and the courage it takes to remain here.
Writing became a place to breathe. What started as a private act of survival slowly turned outward, becoming a way to connect, to witness, and to make meaning. Over time, Ziona began sharing her story within her community and beyond, through creative writing, books, documentaries, and public speaking. Each offering is rooted in honesty, not performance.
Her purpose continues to unfold at the crossroads of creativity, healing, and advocacy. She believes in the power of storytelling to hold pain without glorifying it, to speak about suicide, mental health, and recovery without shame, and to challenge the stigma that keeps so many people silent. She writes for those who are still finding the words—and for those who are afraid to say them out loud.
If you see yourself in these pages, you are not alone. This work is an invitation to stay, to speak, and to believe that even in the aftermath of trauma, something meaningful can still be built. Healing does not require perfection—only the courage to keep going.
